Park City

Hailey decided it was time to learn to snowboard since all the new "guy friends" she's been meeting this year in high school all know how to board. We headed up to Park City for their great StartNow program. FYI--gorgeous blue skis and 40+ degrees = happy California girl!

Good thing she had a cute instructor because it wasn't a very pleasant experience for her...

She fell really hard on her bum at the very beginning and had 2-1/2 more hours of the lesson in pain.

She was a trooper though and hung with it till the end...

I think her tailbone is bruised and she had to miss a hip hop performance at a region drill competition last night and most likely won't be cheering at the basketball game tonight.

Grayson and his friend Colby have 6th grade ski passes where they get to ski once free at all the Utah resorts. Pretty good deal, huh? Had to pull them out of school too since they hadn't been to Park City yet...

There was a little bit of this...

and a whole lot of this...

While my kids were having fun (or not) on the slopes, I was enjoying an Apple Pie caramel apple in here...

Our Weekend...

The theme for this weekend was Woods Cross High School. Friday evening began with the cross-town rival game against Bountiful High. Hailey's best friend Betsy is on Bountiful's cheer squad.

The crowd was wild and showed a lot of school spirit. Unfortunately, Woods Cross lost...

We spent a great deal of Saturday at Hailey's cheer competition in Sandy.

I was running the video so didn't get many pictures but WX did great for their first competition of the season.

Happy with their 1st place win.

Rushed home from the competition to see Garrett off to the Jr. Prom.

Garrett took his good friend Ash.

The group went paintballing in the afternoon and Macaroni Grill for dinner. Garrett had a fun night, Hailey babysat and Grayson hung out with friends. John and I went out to dinner with good friends and we totally deserved it!

Something New...

For those that know me really well, you know that I don't sew, I don't want to sew, I don't own a sewing machine (wouldn't know how to use it if I did...) and have no intention of sewing...

That all changed today. For 2011 I decided I would try one simple sewing project.

I signed up at JoAnn's for a private class with an instructor that helped me make pajama pants from start to finish and it only took me 3 hours! Granted she had to teach me how to read a pattern and how to use a sewing machine but I did it!!!

Memorable things: I made so many "uh ohs" that I learned how to correct most things you might do wrong when sewing. One of those was unpicking the side seams and giving myself an extra 1/2" in the thigh area because my thighs were too big for the pants! The teacher was trying to make me feel better by saying "that's what happens to us women when we have babies..." and I was trying to give her the explanation that I'm a runner and have muscular legs!

Sneak Peak...

I always enjoy the month of December at Bountiful School of Ballet because they let parents and grandparents come and watch during the last week of classes. Hailey has ballet 3x/week so she had various people there on each day of class.

We get to see the ballerinas do their barre work for the first half hour...

... and then we move into the big room and watch each class perform their Christmas dance.

Hailey doesn't mind me coming to watch but she doesn't like me taking pictures of her (surprise, surprise)... You can see my parents in the background reflection.

I still sneak as many photos as I can because that's just what moms do!
