6 DAYS IN ICELAND

I was so blessed to be able to travel to Iceland for six days, June 24-30, with a couple of my friends I went to Scotland with and a few other ladies I didn't know but easily became new friends. Frances coordinated the trip and made all the plans and I enjoyed the ride...

DAY 1 - Arrived Thursday morning, June 24 after traveling to JFK Wednesday afternoon from SLC and catching a red-eye flight to Keflavik Airport. Dropped off my bags at the Lighthouse Inn and we went off sightseeing for the afternoon, including visiting the Bridge between Two Continents. Had my first amazing Icelandic fish and chips meal and hiked to the Fagradalsfjall volcano which was erupting and one of the most incredible experiences of my life.

DAY 2 - Drove in our van to the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik and walked around the city, went to a museum, ate at a delicious pub, went to FlyOver Iceland ride (like Soarin' at Disneyland) and had yummy licorice ice cream with many toppings and syrups.

DAY 3 - Lots of driving to see the countryside on our way to all of our destinations in the Golden Circle. We visited Thinvallur National Park and Gullfoss Waterfall, geysers and a farm shop for lunch and homemade ice cream before arriving at Icelandair Hotel Fludir for the night. After dinner we soaked in the hot tubs at the hotel.

DAY 4 - We continued our drive on the Golden Circle and explored the southern coast. More waterfalls, black sand beach, more Icelandic fish and chips and puffins!

DAY 5 - More amazing countryside as we drove to the Glacier Lagoon. After suiting up we cruised the bay, saw the glacier calves fall into the sea to create icebergs as well as icebergs chunking off. These icebergs float into "Diamond Beach" which we visited and break up onto the sand. Stopped for a meal at another glacier in a bay on the way back to our hotel

DAY 6 - Took an early morning run and saw waterfalls, rivers, mountains and sheep. We drove back toward the airport to drop off our bags and made our way to the famous Blue Lagoon, geothermal mineral waters. Finished our last night in Iceland at a delicious restaurant Cafe DUUS where some people tried whale.
