John and I were called back in October, 2021 to be in charge of the Days of '47 Parade float assigned to our stake. They rotate it through all the stakes in the valley so you only have to do it every nine years or so. We called a committee to help us in November--a couple from each ward--and had Elena Lawrence in the 4th ward (she's an artist) draw a rendering and Kevin Horn was the architect. I found a retired float building guy online and hired him to show us the ropes and walk us through the process. It had to be completed July 16 and dropped off at the Expo Center in Sandy for the float preview party the following week so we decided to participate in the Bountiful Handcart Days parade the morning of July 16 and then took it out to Sandy for display prior to the big Days of '47 Parade downtown SLC on July 23.
Garrett and Julia's family came up for the parade so I set up chairs earlier in the shade and watched it with them while John walked with the float in the parade.
