Cheer Social

Last Friday night John and I spent our evening with the very cute and fun cheerleaders from Mueller Park Jr. High. Each girl on the squad sponsors a cheer social throughout the year and Hailey and Katie had the month of April so they chose swimming, pizza and fun at the Rec Center.

The girls are all between the ages of 13-15 and they are all really NICE girls. (I sure don't remember that always being the case from my cheerleading days...)
... the 2009-10 squad is already learning cheers, stunts and dances for the end of year assembly and cheer camp in Park City in June. They finished Wrestling season on a Tuesday and tried out for next year's squad the following week. It truly never ends but Hailey loves it!

Eagle Scout

Garrett received his Eagle Scout award last Sunday night. I would've posted this earlier but my camera ran out of batteries as I was taking the first picture of the night (OF COURSE IT DID!!!) so my friend Angela--who's son also received his Eagle--took a few photos for me and just sent them to me, hence the week-late post...

I'm so proud of Garrett and am so glad he finished at age 15... I've heard from MANY that once they can date, drive and work, scouting takes a back seat to all of those IMPORTANT THINGS! I'm just glad I learned so much this time around so I can be ready to start all over again in 6 months when Grayson turns 11!

Spring Soccer

Grayson's team won their first soccer game 6-0 and Grayson scored twice. It's not his favorite sport (basketball is #1) but we're trying to keep him with the game a little longer hoping he'll grow to love it since he's a good, solid player.

He's fun to watch and fun to have around!

Spring Break -- Final Installment

At the end of Dana Point Harbor (2.5 miles from our condo) there are tidepools and a hiking trail which we like to ride our bikes down to each year.
We were surprised to find an elephant seal trying to make its way from the water up to the rocks. We reported it to the Ocean Institute which is next to the tidepools and they called the authorities and they came and picked up the seal to see if they could save it. Apparently it was very skinny and they were going to try and tube feed it.

The marine biologist at the Ocean Institute told us (after we got close to take pictures) not to get near these seals because they lunge at you and bite! Their teeth are such that they puncture and then just tear chunks of skin away (ouch).

A view from our condo's pool where you can kind of see the walkway that we take from our condo directly to Capistrano Beach across the street.

The boys in the hot tub; the girls in the sun; the dad taking the picture...

... what the mom does during a beach trip!

We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach before our flight left. First time visiting and it was huge!

These older kids weren't quite sure they wanted to be at the Aquarium when we first walked in but they ended up having a good time...

Lots of touch and feel stations...
Hailey and the jelly fish...

Grayson mesmerized...

Farewell Capistrano Beach... until next year!

Spring Break -- Magic Mountain

Each year we rotate through the So. Cal theme parks and this year we went to Six Flags Magic Mountain--a rollercoaster extravaganza. John spent most of the day happily waving to the rest of us as he watched, videoed and did business via cell phone. The rest of us love the coasters!

Garrett and Grayson both tried their luck at 3-point basketball and walked away with a stuffed Superman which Cooper is now the proud owner of...

OK, we all know how this ride works... You TRY to stay on the side closest to the middle of the ride and my kids TRY so hard to hang on but that centripetal force gets them EVERY time!

Spring Break -- Second Installment

For FHE we always go to THE BEST park (Creekside Park) which is a couple of miles from the condo in Dana Point. The condo is equiped with 7 beach cruisers, beach toys, basketballs, pool toys, board games, etc. so we are never in want of activities... We rode the bikes to the park, then played basketball--always do. It's usually boys against girls and my team always seems to win (hmmm...)
My parents play basketball with us but they were sitting out watching the boys shoot around. The funny thing about my mom reading this book is that Garrett said, "what is chay-ose about?" Grayson had to correct him and tell him the word was "Chaos" (another hmmm...)

Spring Break -- First Installment

Every year our family goes to Capistrano Beach. Since I grew up in Southern California I feel this is a pretty small favor to ask of John since I spend about 8 months of winter weather in Utah for him. My parent have a place right on the beach and it's one of our favorite annual vacations that we share with them...

The kids have the best time together when they're playing in the surf and sand...

Never too afraid of the waves... just the COLD water in April!

Garrett's favorite beach activity is playing in the sand. He is so creative that he always comes up with the best sand village with working moat, roads, tunnels, etc. He can do that for hours...

I love to watch Hailey on the beach. She is usually dancing, cheering or tumbling in the sand and has no inhibitions whatsoever. What I'd give to have that much energy and self-confidence...

Grayson enjoys laying out on the warm sand after he's gotten wet in the ocean...

He also gets the darkest tan out of all of us too...

Hailey buries Garrett in the sand EVERY YEAR! He is such a good sport. You can tell he doesn't really want to do it but she can always talk him in to it...

Monday was THE perfect beach day with three of the kids (John and Hillary didn't fly in until Tuesday night since Hillary was on a school choir trip...)

The Boss of Lacrosse...

Hillary is an AMAZING lacrosse player. She has no fear and never holds back...

She averages one yellow card per game and sits very impatiently until her time is up to return to the game...
She reminds me of an Energizer bunny--just keeps going, and going, and going...

She's a great team player as well as one of the Varisty captains and scores several goals each game.

She is also like a Timex watch--takes a licking, but keeps on ticking... (and she has the scratches, scrapes and bruises to prove it!)
Her goal is to play on the BYU Lacrosse team next year... (I'm happy about that because I LOVE watching this sport!)
p.s. I had to post enough pictures so "THE TUB" picture would scroll down low enough not to be on the front blog page anymore!
