We were surprised to find an elephant seal trying to make its way from the water up to the rocks. We reported it to the Ocean Institute which is next to the tidepools and they called the authorities and they came and picked up the seal to see if they could save it. Apparently it was very skinny and they were going to try and tube feed it.
The marine biologist at the Ocean Institute told us (after we got close to take pictures) not to get near these seals because they lunge at you and bite! Their teeth are such that they puncture and then just tear chunks of skin away (ouch).
A view from our condo's pool where you can kind of see the walkway that we take from our condo directly to Capistrano Beach across the street.
